Q. How do I access the Library's databases?


The following will help you log in to any of the online databases available through the Library. These databases include:

  • ACLS Humanities eBook Collection
  • Artstor
  • Can-Core Academic Video
  • The Chronicle of Higher Education
  • Criterion On-Demand
  • Curio
  • Ebook Central
  • EBSCSOhost (Including EBSCO eBooks, Academic Search Premier, Social Sciences Full Text, Business Source Elite, Regional Business News, APA PsychArticles, Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection, ERIC, Education Source, SocIndex, and Masterfile Elite)
  • Encyclopedia Britannica
  • Encyclopédie Universalis
  • Érudit
  • Films On Demand
  • First Research
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library
  • Masterplots
  • National Film Board of Canada (NFB) / Office national du film du Canada (ONF)
  • Oxford English Dictionary

Logging in to the Library databases

Here are step-by-step instructions for accessing any of the Library's databases:

  1. Go to the Library page on the Marianopolis website.
  2. Go down to the section for the database you want (e.g. Ebook Central is in the "Books and eBooks" section). 
  3. Look for the link to the database you want. Click on the link.
  4. You will be asked to log in.
    • Students: Your username is your seven-digit student number. Your password is the same as your Microsoft 365 login (sometimes also called an Office 365 login). By default, that is your Permanent Code, followed by a hash tag (#). It is case sensitive, so use capital letters. If you have set a new password for Microsoft 365, use the new password when logging in to the databases.     • Faculty and Staff: Your username and password are identical to the ones you use to log in to a College computer or your College email.
  5. Once you submit your username and password, you will either be automatically redirected to the database, or you will see a white page that says “Authentication Successful” and has a second link to the database. In the second case, click on the link to access the database. 

You should now have full access to the database.

The Login is Not Working

If you are not able to log in using the above steps, please try the following:

  1. Clear your browser's recent history. Usually the last 7 days works well. Once you have done that, try logging in again using the above steps. 
  2. Make sure your browser if up-to-date. Older versions of browsers will sometimes not function properly with the logins.
  3. Try a different browser. Occasionally, certain browsers or browser settings will be incompatible with our login. Switching to a different browser often solves the issue.
